Old Thatch is a delighful property

Old Thatch was formerly part of the Dogmersfield Estate (now The Four Seasons Hotel). The Mildmay family, owners of the estate, were a very influential family. They were responsible for the curious course of the Basingstoke Canal which arcs round the estate.

Old Thatch predates the  building of the canal in 1792 and is thought to date from around the mid-seventeenth century.  It would originally have been a simple A-frame hovel, without a chimney as evidenced by some smoke blackening on the roof timbers.  Over the years a chimney and an upper floor were added.

The current owners added a kitchen and bathroom, restored and re-thatched the property in 2017.
